3 Reasons to Get Your Soil Tested

It is important to sample your soil in order to know the component of the soil before planting any crop. Agricultural production largely depends on the contents in term of mineral, acidity and the structure of the soil. There are three types of soils; Loom soil, clay soil and sandy soil. All the three soils can grow a plant, but it will produce different results when it comes to harvesting, this is because soil type influences crop production. You can use a soil testing Kits that are available in agriculture shops or you can involve a soil doctor to test the soil for you in the laboratory. Here are 3 reasons to get your soil tested.

To determine the soil Fertility

Fertility of the soil is the level of the nutrients contained in that soil which determines the yield of the crop. Different crops required different nutrients to grow. Soil testing will determine the type of crop to plant and the nutrients need of that crop in order to know the right type and quantity of fertilizer to use for that crop. This enables the farmer to achieve the maximum yields from that crop.

To determine the PH level of the soil

PH determines the acidity of the soil. The acidity level of the soil means that one of the nutrients is lesser than the other. For example, a soil with 7.8 PH means that the percentage of the phosphorus in that soil is lesser than the soil with 6.8 PH. which requires the farmer to know what nutrient require improvement than the other hence the use of the right fertilizer for a particular crop.

To determine the soil borne diseases

Soil borne diseases can be very frustrating, the farmer can do everything right but get disappointed during harvesting due to these diseases. The only way to know what disease your soil is suffering from is by doing soil testing. The soil Borne disease can affect the entire field to an extent of producing zero yields. It is, therefore, a serious factor to watch in crop production and use the right method to eliminate the disease.

In summary, Soil fertility is determined by the percentage of minerals in the soil. The right composition of the soil should contain the right percentage of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, and Magnesium when there is a deficiency of any of the mentioned mineral the crop will not form properly affecting crop yield. The mentioned mineral can be added to the soil by using the right fertilizer and by balancing the level of acidity by applying lime in the soil.
